Why Does My Pressure Cooker Burn Food

The burn message simply means that the Instant Pot has detected that the inner pot has gotten too hot, so it stops heating to prevent your food from burning. Press Cancel to turn the pot off. Stir to check if there is food stuck to the bottom of the inner pot. Scrape up and remove any burnt food from the pot.

Should You Buy A Pressure Cooker Or Air Fryer

Air frying is a healthy way to cook your foods in comparison to deep-frying them. If you wanted a greater variety in the number of foods that you can cook, the pressure cooker gives you a bigger variety. On the other hand, if you wanted to deep fry your foods and you fry foods often, you will most likely see the air fryer as the next best thing to actual deep frying.

At the same time, both are healthier than deep frying because you dont cook with as much oil with either of them.

  • If you do not already own an electric pressure cooker, this may NOT be the right fit for you. If you are looking into making your initial investment into the electric pressure cooker and air fryer world, you might enjoy the all-in-one package of the Ninja Foodi .
  • In our experience, the accessory racks and baskets that come with the Mealthy CrispLid felt a bit flimsier in quality than the accessories that come with the Foodi. However, there are many inexpensive accessories you can buy online to meet your needs if desired.
  • We have found that stainless steel pot clean up after using the Mealthy CrispLid is significantly more work than the Ninja Foodis non-stick ceramic pots . The good news is that we have found stainless steel clean up MUCH easier with use of our favorite cleaner. Frankly, we would not recommend air frying in stainless steel without it.

  • If you are concerned about investing in the Ninja Foodi for fear of scratching the non-stick coating in their ceramic pots, this option allows you to air fry in a stainless steel pot. However, do note that clean up after air frying in stainless steel does require more effort.

How To Keep Food Warm In The Instant Pot

How to Use Instant Pot as a Pressure Cooker

Maybe youve already reheated the food, or just cooked it, and you want it to stay warm until its time to serve it.

The fabulous thing about the Instant Pot is that there is a button exactly for that! The Cancel/Keep Warm button is your best friend in this case.

If you press the Keep Warm button, it will default to a 2 hour time frame where it will keep the contents of the pot warm. I use this button all the time! For instance, if I make an Instant Pot soup recipe, I can use this function to keep it warm until dinnertime.

The Keep Warm button can also be used to reheat food slowly. Just add the leftovers to the insert pot and press the Keep Warm button, and it will gradually warm the food. You may need to stir every so often, just to distribute the heat more evenly, but it works like a charm if you dont need to reheat quickly!

Can Pressure Cookers Be Pressure Fryers

When to Use High or Low Pressure on the Instant Pot

You might now be wondering, can my pressure cooker be used as a pressure fryer? Well, you can use your pressure cooker as an air fryer if you are using special models like:

  • Instant Pot + Mealthy CrispLid
  • As for a regular pressure cooker, without any special accessories, unfortunately, no.

This is mainly because the temperatures pressure cookers can generate are nowhere near the temperatures required to boil oil. That is, 15 PSI of pressure cookers equate to 120 degrees Celsius while as mentioned, oil boils at around 177 degrees Celsius. This is precisely the same reason why Colonel had to modify his pressure fryer.

One can still cook chicken In the pressure cooker but again, the result will not exactly be the same as it would if cooked with a pressure fryer or deep fryer.

Pressure frying and pressure cooking may be similar in nature but the equipment necessary to carry out these two methods are very different.
